Beyoncé is the latest celebrity to pledge funds to assist in COVID-19 relief efforts. Her BeyGOOD foundation, in partnership with Twitter founder Jack Dorsey’s Start Small fund, will be dividing a generous $6 million donation between several organizations. They are all are united by a common theme: helping communities of colour.

“Communities of colour are suffering by epic proportions due to the COVID-19 pandemic” a statement from BeyGOOD reads.”Many families live in underserved areas with homes that make it hard to practice social distancing. Communities that were already lacking funds for education, health and housing are now faced with alarming infection rates and fatalities. And these communities lack access to testing and equitable healthcare.”

Organizations receiving funds include United Memorial Center, Bread of Life and Matthew 25. According to BeyGOOD’s statement, the money will go towards providing food, water and basic necessities (which now include face masks) for communities in need.

BeyGOOD has also formed a partnership with UCLA and together they have created a COVID-19 care package. Additionally, they are working with the National Alliance in Mental Illness (NAMI) to offer mental health support and resources in Houston, New York, New Orleans and Detroit.

Beyoncé recently appeared on the One World: Together at Home live streamed concert event to support healthcare and frontline workers, while her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, has been reminding us all to wash our hands.
