In the August issue of Nylon Magazine, Jaden Smith has opened up about the powerful reason he wears skirts.

“I’m going to take most of the blows for my fellow MSFTS,” the 18-year-old actor and scion of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, told the magazine. “So, you know, in five years when a kid goes to school wearing a skirt, he won’t get beat up and kids won’t get mad at him. It just doesn’t matter. I’m taking the brunt of it so that later on, my kids and the next generations of kids will all think that certain things are normal that weren’t expected before my time.”

Added Smith: “You just have to believe in yourself, you know.”

He’s not the only Smith offspring making a name for himself. Little sister Willow is the face of Chanel’s eyewear campaign. “It’s not every day that a 15 year-old black girl with dreads gets elected to be the Chanel ambassador,” she told the Telegraph. “I now a lot of girls that look like me feel that they’re not beautiful and feel like they don’t have a place in the media or a place in the world.”
