Daniel Caesar’s debut record, Freudian, was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Album, he’s Toronto-made and he’s selling out shows in places as far away as Singapore…but mostly his smooth (with 10 o’s) sound is like a salt cave for your soul.

2. David Chariandy

This Scarborough, Ont., native’s third book is one of 2018’s most anticipated works of non-fiction. Already drawing comparisons to the incisive political writing of Ta-Nehisi Coates, I’ve Been Meaning to Tell You: A Letter to My Daughter sees the award-winning writer David Chariandy tackle the politics of race in Canada head-on.

3. Michael Greyeyes 

Not only is Michael Greyeyes starring opposite Jessica Chastain in the forthcoming Woman Walks Ahead (he plays the historical figure Native American chief Sitting Bull); he’s also a former ballet dancer and an associate professor and the current director of the graduate program in theatre at Toronto’s York University.
