The Lonely Hearts Hotel by Heather O’Neill

indigo.ca

Why you’ll love it: Fans of the Canadian author’s swirling, lyrical prose will fall for this melancholic love story set in gritty 1920s Montreal. Rose and Pierrot are best friends who grew up at the same orphanage and share a love for the theatre and the circus, but are tethered to the reality of circumstance.
Release date: February 7

Books for Living by Will Schwalbe

indigo.ca

Why you’ll love it: When Schwalbe’s mother was dying of pancreatic cancer, the two started their private own book club, a journey he chronicled in 2012’s, The End of Your Life Book Club. Now the author returns with an equally thought-provoking tome about why we read and how it can change how we and others see the world.
Release date: Dec. 27 (Okay, it’s technically out in 2016, but we had to include it!)

South and West by Joan Didion

indigo.ca

Why you’ll love it: The contains portions of the notebooks from the author’s 1970s road trip into the Deep South with her husband. In other words, it’s a free pass into the never-not-firing synapses of the brilliant American author.
Release date: March 7

Next Year, For Sure by Zoey Leigh Peterson

indigo.ca

Why you’ll love it: Kathryn and Chris are the type of quirky cool couple that everyone is jealous of. They’re so cool in fact, Kathryn encourages Chris to start dating another woman. Can their relationship survive and even thrive as a result?
Release date: February 7

All the Lives I Want: Essays About My Best Friends Who Happen to Be Famous Strangers by Alana Massey

indigo.ca

Why you’ll love it: We calling it: this will be 2017’s answer to Jessi Klein’s You’ll Grow Out of It. Massey writes with her signature wit and irreverence about how famous women from Britney Spears to Anjelica Huston have shaped her life.
Release date: February 7

The Futures by Anna Pitoniak

amazon.ca

Why you’ll love it: This tale about a wide-eyed couple who move to New York on the eve of the 2008 financial crisis sounds like Wall Street meets Girls. Bonus: it’s written by a Canadian.
Release date: January 17

The Secrets of My Life by Caitlyn Jenner

indigo.ca

Why you’ll love it: Two years after coming out as transgender, Caitlyn Jenner is now taking us inside the journey. (We’re also hoping she spills some fun family deets along the way.)

Swing Time by Zadie Smith

indigo.ca

Why you’ll love it: Like Books for Living, this book came out in late 2016, but if you haven’t read Smith’s masterpiece about two childhood best friends who want to be dancers, you need to RN.

The Refugees by Viet Thanh Nguyen
