Beyonce Stuns With New Album Drop
Surprise! While you were sleeping,
Beyonce released her new album!
If you’re stunned (and feeling a tiny bit betrayed, if you’re honest) you’re not alone – the new record (self-titled, natch) appeared on iTunes with no pre-promotion, no publicity stunts, not even an oblique tweet to give us a little time to prepare ourselves. (Although she did post some
‘sorry for the shock!’ vegan cupcakes to instagram immediately post the ‘surprise!’ post). Directly from the throne, here’s the super-star’s explanation for why she’s by-passed the normal release route: “I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.” And it gets better. Not only has the album appeared like a lightening bolt from the musical gods, but each of the 17 tracks has an accompanying video – she’s calling it "a visual album" – and they are worth the price of admission alone. Can Beyonce roller-skate? See "Blow". Care to take a trip to the islands with Blue Ivy? Watch "Blue". And if that’s not enough, the album has cameos from Drake, Joan Smalls, and many others…her Mom even pops up in "Grown Woman". Queen B even unleashes a new alter-ego on us (RIP Sasha Fierce): everyone say hello to "Yonce". You can find further information on
her Facebook page…if you can handle it.
