Dsquared-spring2015beautyIt was a match made in mascara heaven backstage at the DSquared2 spring/summer 2015 show.

The ELLE Canada beauty team was pretty underwhelmed by the subdued makeup on some of the New York runways. “We went backstage for one show and all they had done was massage in
moisturizer on the models’ faces for five minutes,” laughed senior beauty editor Jennifer Weatherhead Harrington. “What can we do with that?” The makeup story backstage at DSquared2 in Milan was the counter-opposite. More is more—and then some—especially when it comes to mascara. “The one makeup that I always say you can do wrong and it still looks all right is
mascara,” said M.A.C makeup artist Gordon Espinet. “I’m cool with mascara being trashy and overdone.” For the show, Espinet chose
M.A.C’s In Extreme Dimension because of its “super-big brush” and “super-chunky appearance.” “You know when little girls first get their hands on mascara and they wear way too much? That’s the look I wanted, so I told the other makeup artists that when they felt they had too much on, add three more layers!” Final tally: 20. Call it a Tammy Faye Bakker-inspired beauty credo.
What other Milan show had makeup artists applying more than just a little moisturizer?
