5 reasons why Her should win Best Picture

If you haven’t seen it:
Her is the story of recently divorced writer Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) who lives in Los Angeles and falls for the lively Samantha, played by Scarlett Johansson. No, this isn’t a Sofia Coppola knockoff. Here’s the twist: "Samantha" is a computer operating system–voiced by Johansson–and the film is a lyrical and touching meditation on love in a world where man relies on machine for everything except romantic bonding–until now.
Five reasons why it should win: 1.
Because… It plays on the age-old question that humanity has wrestled with since the dawn of technology: what happens when man falls for machine? 2.
Because… Scarlett Johansson’s sultry, honeyed computer operating system voice is infinitely better than Siri’s. 3.
Her is director Spike Jonze’s fourth feature film (
Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and
Where the Wild Things Are) and his first original screenplay, for which he earned an Oscar nod. 4.
Because… We’re just glad to have Joaquin Phoenix back. 5.
Because… It’s pretty much the perfect harmony of gender-pleasing storylines: a love saga and man vs. artificial intelligence.
