3 must-see events at Luminato 2015
Toronto’s annual 10 day celebration of the city’s vibrant cultural life is upon us! So what should you, the discerning yet open-minded individual with an evening or two to spare until June 28, see at Luminato 2015?
The Geoffrey Farmer installation in Trinity Bellwoods Park
If you do nothing else this Luminato, pack a picnic and check out the utterly-mesmerising “Look in my face; my name is Might-have-been; I am also called No-more, Too-late, Farewell“. Running 24 hours a day on a screen set up in a grove of trees, this is a constantly changing montage of 17,000 archival images, shuffled like a deck of cards, and set to a soundtrack of sound and music that’s also different. You can literally sit in front of this screen for days and not see the same image twice.
Canuck talent showcase
Every night of the fest, starting at 6pm, you can check out an exciting new home-grown act down at the Festival Hub in David Pecault. If we were you, we’d recommend moseying down for this Friday’s all-gal line-up of soul singer Selena Evangeline and folk strummer Jessica Mitchell.
Grab a cold one
Checking out all the exhibits is thirsty work, which is why grabbing an ice cold popsicle from the lovely folk of Hunter, Gatherer, Purveyor. This is an ice cream cart with a difference: Each frozen treat contains flowers and herbs harvested from the streets of this city by a duo of visual artists. We had the Mount Dennis (filled with chicory and rose petals from that neighb) and it was a revelation.
