Spring 2014 beauty trend: Art focus
Painterly high-impact colour commanded attention on the spring/ summer 2014 runways. At Chanel, makeup artist Peter Philips painted in Van Gogh-like strokes, layering pitch-black liner around the eyes as if he were framing a painting. At Manish Arora, face painter Kabuki created a “Josephine Baker meets 1990s raver” look by colour-blocking white, electric lime and hot pink, dragging the pigments from the inner corner of the eye toward the nose. Things took a messy turn at Vivienne Westwood, where models unsuccessfully dodged Jackson Pollock-like splatters of brown and gold paint from makeup artist Val Garland. Talk about surviving an art attack.
