Despite dating a bona fide beauty expert (ELLE Québec beauty director Théo Dupuis-Carbonneau), Félix Asselin hadn’t dabbled in skincare products. “I thought a moisturizer was enough and that a full routine wouldn’t make a difference,” he confesses.

So we invited Asselin to put his assumption to the test, arming him with fan-favourite products from Jack Black – the bestselling men’s prestige skincare brand, known for top-notch ingredients – so he could see the results for himself.

“That blue packaging caught my eye right away,” says Asselin of his first impression. “They seem like affordable luxury products.”

STEP ONE

Step one called for the  Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser, made with organic aloe and sage-leaf extracts, which he found “really creamy and very refreshing.”

STEP TWO

Post-cleanse came the  Oil-Control Toner, which balances skin with salicylic acid and witch hazel. “I loved that it maximized the absorption of the moisturizer,” says Asselin, who also liked the herbal scent. Although toner was new to him, he’s now a convert after seeing the effects.

STEP THREE

Next was the  Double-Duty Face Moisturizer SPF 20 (the brand is popular for its multi-functional formulas), which particularly impressed him. “I absolutely loved how milky and light it was and how quickly it absorbed,” explains Asselin. “My skin felt silky – not oily at all.”

STEPS FOUR AND FIVE

To keep his facial hair well groomed, Asselin also tested the  Beard Lube (“It made the razor blades glide very easily”) and Post Shave Cooling Gel (My skin is normally sensitive, but this was immediately soothing and not sticky”).

STEP SIX

Last but not least, Turbo Body Spray added an energizing final touch.

The verdict? Although Asselin didn’t know what to do with so many products at first, he soon realized that the routine was, in fact, easy. “My skin is so smooth after using it all – I’ll start doing this every day for sure,” he tells us, showing off the results at our photo shoot. “I now see it as an investment rather than another expense or chore.”

As for his advice to other guys getting into skincare? “Don’t be afraid to ask questions – the products were developed for a reason, and you should really look into that if you want to have healthy skin as you grow older,” he says. Of course, Asselin has a slight advantage: “Dating a beauty editor helps a lot.”
