16 Notable Beauty Products That Launched in May
Get ready to hit add-to-cart.
by : Melissa Fejtek- May 27th, 2020

Acne-fighting superheroes, sweet-smelling lotions and the best model-off-duty makeup products. Ahead, we’ve rounded up the biggest and best beauty launches of May 2020.
Satisfying Skincare Patches
After becoming a bestseller at Sephora only two days after their launch in the U.S., Peace Out Skincare’s microneedling patches have finally arrived in Canada. Made of dissolving microdarts, the patches fast-track skin-saving ingredients to where you need them most. We love the Peace Out Dark Spots ($37, sephora.com), which contain nicacinamide, licorice extract and tanexamic acid (an amino acid derivative) to help fade hyperpigmentation overnight. Also launching in Canada are the Microneedling Anti-Wrinkle Retinol Patches ($37) and Pore Treatment Strips ($25) – a modern take on old-school blackhead strips that are oh-so-satisfying to inspect the next morning.
A Soothing Acne Treatment
It’s 2020: treating zits doesn’t have to mean dry, flaky skin. The new formulation of Vichy Normaderm Anti-Acne Moisturizer ($30, vichy.ca) contains 2% salicylic acid along with ultra-hydrating hyaluronic acid and mineral-rich thermal water to control blemishes without disturbing your moisture barrier.
The Silkiest Sunscreen
Add an extra layer of SPF protection to your routine with Ava Isa Sun-è-Serum Drops SPF 35 ($50, thesunscreencompany.com). The silky, fragrance-free formula contains 25% zinc oxide – the highest concentration of zinc allowed in an all-mineral sunscreen – along with Micah, a patented compound that acts like an antioxidant to neutralize free radicals and prevent UVA-induced skin damage before it begins.
A Soothing Serum
Spring allergies are (sadly) not limited to itchy eyes and uncontrollable sneezing – your skin can suffer, too. That’s why we love La Roche-Posay Toleriane DermAllergo Serum ($39, laroche-posay.ca). The star ingredient, neurosensine, is found naturally in the body and instantly soothes inflammation caused by allergic reactions while reducing sensitivity in the skin. Colour us impressed.
A Canadian-Made Oil
French-Canadian brand Maison Jacynthe’s latest launch is loaded with nourishing, carotenoid-rich plant oils like rosehip, sea buckthorn and calendula to soothe and illuminate freshly sun-kissed skin. Maison Jacynthe Après Soleil (“The After Sun”) Body Serum ($185, maisonjacynthe.ca)
A K-Beauty Moisturizer
Luxury Korean skincare brand Amorepacific’s latest launch harnesses the power of bamboo nectar to deeply hydrate and plump up skin sans the heavy feeling of creams. Amorepacific Moisture Plumping Nectar Cream ($210, sephora.com)
An Overnight Acne Treatment
Hormones, diet and chronic stress (perhaps induced by pandemics) are all factors that may contribute to adult acne and an accelerated decline in the overall quality of the skin. Enter Dermalogica Retinol Clearing Oil ($114, dermalogica.ca), a lipid-based oil designed to be worn at night that contains time-released retinol and salicylic acid to ward off zits and rescue less-than-glowing skin. If you’re wary of the initial side effects – dryness and flakiness – associated with retinol, you can try this one with confidence: The formula contains argan, rosehip and jojoba oils, which closely mimic human sebum to help maintain a balanced complexion.
A Blue-Light Protector
If checking your screen time sends you into a wave of despair (no judgement here), consider keeping Indeed Labs Hydraluron + Moisture Mist ($23, ca.indeedlabs.com) on hand at all times. This hydrating mist combats “digital aging” using butterfly bush extract, a potent antioxidant which prevents the breakdown of collagen associated with exposure to blue light (also known as high-energy visible light) and pollution.
A Chic Eyeshadow Palette
Achieve celeb levels of glam with Charlotte Tilbury Desert Haze Luxury Palette ($66, charlottetilbury.com). This peachy-bronze palette is made up of four buildable creamy-matte shadows that flatter all skin tones and promise serious colour pay-off.
A Refreshing Mist
This fast-absorbing, non-sticky lotion mist is the perfect pick-me-up for parched skin in need of a boost. It’s loaded with wild rainforest-grown ingredients like guayusa extract, aloe and morete oil, which are sustainably harvested by people indigenous to the land – a Rahua standard. The cherry on top? Its sweet passion fruit and guava scent guarantees you’ll be misting all day long. Rahua Enchanted Island Lotion Mist ($53.50, rahua.com)
A Dry Shampoo
Needless to say, dry shampoo has become a quarantine staple (as if it wasn’t already a stable, TBH). If you’re looking to refresh your past-its-prime ‘do, we recommend Kérastase Fresh Affair Refreshing Dry Shampoo ($45, kerastase.ca). It’s delicately scented and employs rice starch to mop up excess oils without creating scalp-clogging buildup. Spray to your heart’s content.
A Probiotic-Rich Moisturizer
Greek skincare darling Korres just got a facelift. The Mediterranean apothecary-style skincare brand is now available at Sephora Canada with a sleek, minimalist design. New to their lineup is the Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Probiotic Gel-Cream ($47, sephora.com), the follow up to the extremely popular Greek Yoghurt Probiotic Superdose Face Mask. Its gel-to-cream texture is perfect for rising temperatures, while lactic acid (an ingredient naturally found in yogurt) gently sloughs away dead skin cells.
A Glossy Lip Balm

“Softer lips after each use, that’s what I wanted to achieve with this lip conditioner,” says Pixi founder and makeup artist Petra Strand of the new Pixi LipGlow ($20, at Shoppers Drug Mart). Its sheer, tinted formula imparts a glossy, natural finish while conditioning your lips at the same time. For those who crave a glossy lip but aren’t partial to the thick, sticky formulas associated with our teenage years, this one is sure to please.
A Summer Polish Lineup
CND Nauti Nautical Collection ($12.50, at select salons) is the perfect antidote for an overdue manicure. These vibrant, summery shades are available both in shellac and long wear polish formulas and are perfect for mix-and-matching. Now say it with us: I can do my own nails. We believe in you!
A Skincare Trio
If you have yet to try out Ole Henriksen’s eponymous skincare line, add this glow-getting set to your repertoire. Included in this trio is the game-changing Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner, along with the all-new Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum and the C-Rush Brightening Gel Crème. Olehenriksen 3 Mega Wonders ($98)
