#NYFW Spring 2015: No makeup at Marc Jacobs, you won’t even recognize Kendall Jenner!
Leave it to Marc Jacobs to take one beauty trend and go to the extreme. Taking the whole “
no makeup makeup” look that swarmed NYFW for Spring 2015 to the next level, Marc Jacobs commissioned his go-to makeup artist François Nars to massage moisturizer into the models’ skin. That’s it. No
foundation. No concealer. No powder. Zero. Nada. Nothing on the skin except moisturizing lotion. “It took me about 5 minutes,” laughed Francois Nars before the show, understandably looking more relaxed and chilled out than any other makeup pro who leads backstage at fashion week. “There is absolutely no makeup. Marc is always pretty extreme, so this no makeup makes a huge statement. And I don’t do middle of the road either.” The “makeup” team just worked
NARS Skin Luminous Moisture Cream and Total replenishing Eye Cream into the skin and gave each model a quick facial massage, before they got fitted with jet-black, Ramones-inspired wigs. Canadian supe Heather Marks said, “I love it! It’s so nice to not have anything on my face.” As the gaggle of international beauty editors blinked like crazy, trying to think of questions to ask a makeup artist who has applied ZERO makeup, Mr. Nars just smiled.

“Is there anything on the lips?” “No, no lips. Not even lip balm.”
“What about covering up dark circles?” “No, we want the dark circles.”
“Did you try to cover up shine? It’s so humid outside, what if the models go outside?” “We want them to go outside to get the skin shiny, to look sticky. We want a shine to the skin.” Silence.
“What about girls who have pimples?” “Luckily most of the girls have great skin, but we would do just the minimum on any spots to the few girls who need it.” And with that, Marc Jacobs and Francois Nars have thrown the beauty editors for a loop. “I’m probably one of the few makeup artists out there who loves women with no makeup,” Nars explained. “Sometimes it is great to wear a bare face. It goes so well with fashion. What you see is what you get. There are no rules today."
