Big Little Lies star Zoë Kravitz has packaged her signature style into the new YSL Beauty x Zoë collection. The actress has been the face of YSL Beauty since 2016 but wanted to “get more involved and more creative.” Kravitz was actively involved in the entire lipstick-making process from conception to formulation to packaging.
“The black logo on the black packaging came from one of my favorite Saint Laurent bags, called the Niki Bag. And the sparkle was inspired by the Black Opium packaging,” said Kravitz in a statement.
The collection features six new shades – three reds and three nudes – of the Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in three finishes: satiny radiance, radiant matte and shimmer satin. “Rouge Pur Couture is one of my favourite products,” said Kravitz. “The texture is so beautiful. It doesn’t get too dry; it’s not too shiny. It’s kind of perfect.”
Kravitz chose reds and nudes because they’re “the perfect colours for lipstick.”
“Nudes are great for daytime, but also if you want to do a very dramatic eye for night-time to keep it kind of simple,” she says. “Red is always perfect for a red carpet… I think it’s always sexy and fun. You just have to make sure not to smear it all over other people’s cheeks when you say hello!”
Each shade in the collection is named after someone in her life. Arlene’s Nude (far left) is a rosewood nude named after Kravitz’s grandmother. Maris’ Nude (centre) is named after one of her godmothers, and is a warm brown shade with a radiant matte finish. Honey’s Nude (far right) is a rose nude with a shimmery satin finish, named after Kravitz’s nickname for her other godmother, Cree Summer.
Wolf’s Red (far left) is a universal intense bold red with a satin radiant finish named after Kravitz’s brother. Her dog Scout served as the namesake for Scout’s Red (centre), a bright red with orange undertones and a radiant matte finish. (She often wears a bright red bandana.) Lale’s Red (far right) is a strong dark red with a shimmer satin finish, named for Kravitz’s mom Lisa Bonet.
