TikTok Made Me Buy It: Are These Viral Beauty Products Worth the Hype?
We put them to the test to find out.
by : Samantha Vecchiarelli- Mar 9th, 2023
TikTok is the go-to platform to find the hottest beauty products and trends of the moment but are these so-called must-haves really worth it? We’re breaking down the most hyped-up beauty products by putting them to the ultimate wear test to find out whether you should purchase or pass.
24/7 Moondust Eyeshadow, Urban Decay
Described as a light champagne gold with silver sparkle, this stunning single-pan eyeshadow from Urban Decay is packed with micro-fine glitter to ensure the ultimate shimmery finish.
After applying this gorgeous pressed shadow to the lids, I’m convinced that this is the perfect shade to use as a topper or base because it really takes your look to the next level. I love how shimmery and reflective this shade is. Plus, it really does give your eyes that “wet” look which is super on-trend right now.

Halo Glow Liquid Filter, e.l.f. Cosmetics
Say hello to your new favourite makeup must-have. The e.l.f. Cosmetics Halo Glow Liquid Filter comes in several different shades and is a liquid glow complexion booster that will leave your skin with a soft-focus filter effect. The main reason this product went viral was because it’s being praised as a drugstore dupe for the ever-popular Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter.
After trying it, this product is definitely worth the hype because it leaves your skin with the most beautiful, radiant finish. I love using it underneath my makeup to give my skin a subtle glow, but it’s truly such a versatile product because it’s designed to be multipurpose. It can be used four different ways- by itself, under makeup (as a glowy base), mixed with your fave foundation, or as a highlighter. This is a must-add to cart that will change your makeup game for the better.
Price: $19
All Hours Foundation, YSL
Will the YSL All Hours Foundation be your new holy-grail go-to foundation? The product is supposed to offer 24-hour full coverage wear with a luminous matte finish to ensure a flawless look. It’s also lightweight and features hyaluronic acid for all-day hydration.
As someone with combination skin, I personally loved how the foundation applied because it seamlessly covered my imperfections and left my skin with a healthy, dewy glow. It also didn’t feel heavy which I was afraid of because it claims to be full coverage. Blending it out with a sponge definitely helps melt the product into the skin, giving you that second-skin finish.
This product is mostly worth the hype, but if you have really oily skin and prefer a base that’s not as full coverage or luminous, the YSL All Hours Foundation may not be the one for you.
Price: $76
Matte Beauty Blush Wand, Charlotte Tilbury
The Charlotte Tilbury Matte Beauty Blush Wand has been everywhere recently. While some have said the product’s formula gave a super blurring effect due to its soft flush of colour, others didn’t appreciate the limited shade options.
After putting the product to the test on fair skin, I was slightly underwhelmed by the colour payoff. It gave my cheeks a soft flush of colour but it took some time to build it up to the rich colour intensity I was hoping for. Although this product, in particular, might be overhyped, the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Highlighter Wand (which also went viral) might be worth a shot if you love sporting products that offer a more radiant finish.
Price: $52
Fat Oil Lip Drip, NYX Professional Makeup
Looking for long-lasting hydration and high shine? The NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip (which has a non-sticky formula) is for you. Not to mention, the packaging is super cute.
After putting the NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip to the test, I can confirm that they’re super hydrating and the oversized applicator makes it quick and easy to apply. The shade range is also super wearable because the formulas are sheerer, offering a subtle, nourishing wash of colour once applied. This is the only lip product you need in your bag. Thank me later.
