Originally created to counter the damage caused by keratin treatments (also known as Brazilian blowouts) in Brazil, Pantene Pro-V Intense Rescue Shots ($8 for three) are coming to Canada—with an upgrade. A manufacturing breakthrough in Pantene’s Tokyo lab allowed the brand to include its highest-ever level of lipids (something that your overprocessed/overstyled hair is seriously lacking) in the product without it weighing down hair. The treatment is “virtually overdose-proof,” says Dr. Jeni Thomas, principal scientist at Pantene. “We tell people to feel free to saturate their hair—it is absorbed deeply, and the excess rinses away.” 

When I take home luxurious, weighty bottles of body oil in the dregs of winter, I am convinced of my imminent ascension to hydration nirvana. And yet they sit mostly unused on my counter. I’m happy to report that Altogether Oil ($42), the first product from Detox Mode—the new in-house line from clean, green beauty mecca The Detox Market—is not one of those products. Marilisa, artistic director for Marc Anthony, taught us this super-fine-hair hack to prevent the dreaded second-day oil slick: Use a leave-in conditioner like you would use a regular rinse-out conditioner. Luxury vegan skincare line Orveda is the brainchild of storied former L’Oréal Group exec Sue Y. Nabi. (During her tenure as president of Lancôme, she launched the now hugely successful fragrance La Vie Est Belle and convinced Julia Roberts to be the face.) Powered by green biotechnology, her products are packed with potent yet gentle ingredients that won’t disrupt the skin barrier, like the marine enzymes and fermented black tea kombucha in The Prebiotic Emulsion ($427). More eco cred: The entire line, both its packaging and formulation, contains less than 5 percent of anything from petrochemical origin, so it’s not adding to plastic piles in the middle of the Pacific. 

 “When you ask a geisha to tell you the single most important thing about her skincare, she’ll always say it’s the bintsuke wax,” says Victoria Tsai, founder of the Japanese-beauty-inspired line Tatcha. “It keeps moisture in the skin and pollution and makeup out of pores.” Made with four types of silk proteins—which have a molecular composition similar to human skin—the new Tatcha The Silk Canvas primer ($62) provides the same benefits while intensifying any pigment you put on top of it (concealer, eyeshadow, what have you) without the heaviness of actual wax on your face. Instagram artist Sara Shakeel uses Photoshop to overlay glitter and other sparkling motifs on stretch marks, and we can’t get enough. As someone who hasn’t done her own nails for longer than I care to admit, I found this DIY gel-manicure kit surprisingly simple to use. (You could still see my cuticles when I’d finished painting—usually, they’re covered for days.) The polish is a base coat, colour and top coat all in one. Each kit includes a nail colour that matches the delightful maca­ron-shaped LED lamp, a nail file, a cuticle stick and enough presoaked pads to remove polish once. Keeping the stress dragon tamed when you’re skipping sleep (oh, zee parties!) is harder than getting a ticket to the Drake and Rihanna #AtLastLuvFest2017. (It could happen, yes?) Are you one of those “But first, coffee” Snappers? (Us too.)
