Beauty editors from every ELLE magazine in the world were polled on their favourite makeup, hair and body products for the 2019 ELLE International Beauty Awards. Here are the 14 world-class winners.
The first-ever ELLE International green-beauty award goes to the artificial-colour-, GMO- and fragrance-free Tata Harper Clarifying Cleanser ($85). “This leaves my skin feeling super-clean and refreshed,” says Marthe Eggum Jakobsen, beauty editor at ELLE Norway. “It’s my holy-grail cleanser.”
Several ELLE editors complimented Chloé Nomade Eau de Parfum Spray ($154 for 75 mL) for its “joyful” and “easy-to-wear” pairing of floral and mossy notes (specifically, freesia, oakmoss and mirabelle plum).
Make a note to pick up Vichy Idéal Soleil Solar Protective Water SPF 30 Hydrating on your next Euro trip. (It’s not available in Canada.) According to Sophie Beresiner, beauty director at ELLE U.K., it’s “refreshing, effective and perfectly beach-friendly.”
Cellulite treatments are popular in Croatia, according to Mihaela Batinic, beauty editor at ELLE Croatia—and Elancyl Slim Design Slimming Oil ($42) is a go-to. “The fact that this is a big hit in my country says it all,” she says.
The Body Shop Almond Milk Body Yogurt ($16) is lightweight and deeply hydrating. “If the jar were any bigger, I would take a bath in it!” says Laure Vandendaele, beauty editor at ELLE Belgium.
Anne Pedersen, beauty director at ELLE Denmark, calls Lancôme Advanced Génifique Hydrogel Melting Mask ($20) “pure genius” for delivering the equivalent of a full bottle’s worth of brightening serum to the skin in just one mask.
Nearly every ELLE editor used the word “luxury” to describe La Prairie Platinum Rare Cellular Night Elixir ($1,555). Simply put? “[It’s] premium care from a premium brand that turns back time,” says Velina Vasileva, beauty and lifestyle editor at ELLE Bulgaria, of its firming and brightening powers.
Angélique Martel, beauty director at ELLE Québec, likened the results of using the light-textured La Mer The Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream ($230) to “stepping out of a professional facial.”
“With 40 shades, buildable coverage and a sweat-resistant formula, Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation ($50) ticks all the boxes with its latest base,” says Janna Johnson O’Toole, beauty and fitness editor at ELLE Australia. What’s not to love?
“Applying this lipstick makes me feel like the most glamorous, luxurious version of myself,” says Victoria DiPlacido, beauty director at ELLE Canada, of Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain ($56).
“I was skeptical about buying high-end mascara because drugstore ones are great and affordable, but the clump-free, innovative, 3-D-printed Chanel Le Volume Révolution de Chanel ($45) is totally worth the splurge,” says Younji Jung, beauty director at ELLE Korea. For details, see Shopping Guide.
A round of applause is in order for the eco-friendly L’Oréal Professionnel Source Essentielle Shampoo ($36)— launching in Canada this May— says Barbara Huber, beauty director at ELLE Germany. “It’s free of silicone, has 80 percent naturally derived ingredients and comes in sustainable packaging.”
Let’s just say French family-owned beauty brand Sisley’s foray into hair care was well received by ELLE editors. Use the decadent Hair Rituel by Sisley-Paris Regenerating Hair Care Mask with Four Botanical Oils ($120) to cheat the look of a fresh trim. Split ends? “Wave ’em goodbye!” says Carin Hellman, beauty editor at ELLE Sweden.
There’s no salt, silicone or alcohol in Kérastase Aura Botanica Eau de Vagues ($43). Instead, it’s formulated with a brilliant combo of naturally sourced sugar and aloe vera for tousled beach waves without the crunch.
