Hourglass Cosmetics will be an all-vegan brand by 2020.
Hourglass Cosmetics announced today that it will become completely vegan by 2020. The luxury makeup-skincare brand already has a large range of vegan cosmetics, but plans to replace ingredients that are animal-derived — most notably beeswax and carmine (red dye made from beetles' wings) — with ingredients that are free from any animal by-products. “It is not a simple solution,” says Carisa Janes, founder and CEO of Hourglass in a statement. “But we are dedicated to putting in the time and effort it will take to find vegan alternatives for our product formulas.”
100% of profits from the purchase of this #vegan leather makeup clutch will support the @Nonhuman.rights.project. We are proud to partner with the NhRP, the only civil rights organization in the United States working to secure legally recognized fundamental rights for nonhuman animals. Although the brand is already 100% cruelty-free, Janes wants Hourglass to be “the first completely vegan luxury cosmetics brand in the world.” To celebrate its new commitment, Hourglass released a Limited Edition Vegan Leather Bag in partnership with the Nonhuman Rights Project. One hundred percent of profits will be donated to the Nonhuman Rights Project.
