Here are three modern ways to wear eyeshadow—from minimalist pastels to look-at-me neons—as seen on the spring runways.

1. Play with pastels

Washes of soft pink, pale blue and lilac were seen on the eyelids of models on the spring runways from Peter Pilotto to Missoni and beyond.

Get the look: Simply swipe shadow over the upper lids using an eyeshadow brush or your fingertips.

Pro tip: Pink, lilac and purple work best on green or hazel eyes; yellow, peach and coral complement blue eyes; and all shades are flattering on brown and black eyes.

2. Try the new smoky eye

Get the look: Upgrade your traditional smoky eye by using brown, purple, burgundy or blue eyeliner, all of which are less harsh than black.

Pro tip: A dramatic eye is an attention grabber. Keep the rest of your face bare except for a dusting of blush.

3. Go full-on neon

Neon is one of spring’s biggest trends when it comes to clothes and makeup.

Get the look: Blend a cream shadow stick in colours like bright orange, hot pink or neon turquoise over eyelids. If you want, you can balance out the look by lining the contour of the eyes with an eyeliner in a similar shade.

Pro tip: A matte nude lip will ensure that all the attention is on your eyes.
