LG Fashion Week, backstage beauty report: Coccolily, Fall 2010-11
Dolled-up models were soft and sweet.
“They look like dolls,” said Julie Tremblay (she handles L’Oreal Paris’s corporate communications) as we watched the models for Coccolily get their hair wound into a big mane of almost surreal-looking curls. Lead hair stylist Eric Del Monaco got the look by using a small-barrelled, double-pronged curling iron. Winding the hair in the shape of an eight on the two prongs gave the hair a unique loose curl, and further dimension was added by winding individual strands around just one of the prongs to create tight springy spirals. Spritzing each section with hairspray before curling it helped “to fix the curl better, keeping it nice and firm,” says Del Monaco.
“Designer Naana Tennachie Yankey initially wanted just a little bit of eyeliner and lipstick, but I recommended she go with a look that was more modern,” says Eddie Malter, Artistic Director for LG Fashion Week. “She’s such a talented, young designer and we wanted to help make her collection really pop.” And pop it did – thanks to a medium-dark smoky eye using HIP Eye Shadow Duo in Reckless 514 on the eyelid and the black shade from HIP Eye Shadow Duo in Platinum 906 to contour the eye (he also added a highlight using Morning Lights). Malter kept the brows defined and very clean, added a swipe of mascara, a bit of blush, and finished off the look with lips glossed in Infallible 805.
