Before you cover yourself in holiday makeup glitter, listen to what Illamasqua’s Alex Box has to say on the matter
The effortlessly cool Alex Box has built her reputation making highly directional beauty looks in fashion editorials and backstage at shows like Gareth Pugh, Issey Miyake and Véronique Leroy. She’s the perfect artistic fit as the creative director for Illamasqua, a British brand that oozes boundary-pushing individuality.
Although I often see Ms Box backstage (along with her gorgeous little baby boy, whom she totes everywhere), we don’t get a chance to talk "regular" makeup stuff as she’s usually
too busy using a dish scrubber on model’s faces in the name of creative expression. Luckily, when Box was in town recently, I was able to quiz her on normal things, such as: makeup looks during this time of year. Must I be covered in glitter to be popular? Apparently not. Holiday makeup is not about wearing so much sparkle you can be seen from space. In fact, Box says that the best way to tackle this time of year is to “do your makeup like you just came from another party. Wear smudgy eyeliner and dab on your lipstick. You don’t want it to appear too perfect or done—that doesn’t feel like real life.” READ MORE:
