Love at first laugh
The way to a woman’s heart just might be through her funnybone. New research out of the University of Kansas suggests that when a man and woman meet, the more a woman laughs at his jokes, the more interested she is. If they laugh together, their connection is thought to be even stronger. “If you meet someone who you can laugh with, it might mean your future relationship is going to be fun and filled with good cheer,” said Jeffrey Hall, associate professor of communication studies, according to Science Daily. Our advice: Brush up on those knock-knock jokes, fellas.
College is going to pot
Smoking weed is now more popular than smoking cigarettes on college campuses across America. For the first time in history, more college student are smoking a joint every day than those smoking one cigarette. It’s a small gap – 6 percent to 5 percent – but according to The Monitoring the Future study (which is funded by the U.S. National Institutes on Drug Abuse), pot smoking has been increasing on campuses since 2006. In Canada, the amount of pot smoked in the 15-24-year-old age group has been on the decline since 2008, but this demographic still uses the drug three times as often as the general population. According to a spring 2013 survey of 32 Canadian colleges and universities by the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, 16 percent of students had smoked or ingested cannabis in the past 30 days.
Feeling blue can affect how you see colour
Now we know why we always reach for the neutral palette section of our wardrobe when we’re feeling sad. New research suggests that being down in the dumps can affect how you see colour. People who participated in a study at the University of Rochester were less able to identify colours on the blue-yellow spectrum than those who felt happy or neutral.
