If you’ve ever searched a fitness hashtag, you’re familiar with Kayla Itsines’ BBG program, A Bikini a Day’s Natasha Oakley and Emily Skye’s F.I.T. program. The latest Australian exercise export is F45 Training ($30 per class, f45training.com), a gruelling 45-minute workout designed to burn fat and build lean muscle using a combination of functional training (working muscles you use in daily life) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) in a circuit-style format.

No class is ever the same; workouts are compiled from a database of over 3,000 strength and cardio exercises originally inspired by the moves personal trainer and F45 co-founder Luke Istomi would use to sculpt his celebrity clients (a list that reads like a who’s who of Australian actors, such as Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman). You could find yourself pushing a weighted sled, squatting on a Bosu, deadlifting sandbags and slamming down a medicine ball—or not. (It would take about 300 years for a class to be replicated from start to finish.) Since its launch in 2014, the massively popular brand has expanded to more than 750 locations worldwide.

Haven’t heard of it yet? You will. It plans to have 100 stand-alone locations open across Canada within the year.
