“Straight/Curve” calls for greater body diversity in the fashion industry
“We need a more diverse range of role models,” says Project Runway’‘s Tim Gunn in the recently released trailer for Straight/Curve: Redefining Body Image. The documentary takes a critical look at the external factors affecting women’s body thoughts and features appearances by major players in the body positivity charge, including fashion designer Christian Siriano, founders of all-size modelling agency JAG Models Gary Dakin and Jaclyn Sarka, aerie CEO Jenn Foyle and curve models Tess Holliday and Charli Howard.
The film was produced by Jessica Lewis, who has first-hand experience as a model for both the straight and curve (or “plus size”) markets. “What’s most exciting about Straight/Curve to me, an industry veteran, is the proposal of a new way to successfully navigate the fashion industry both at home and globally,” says Lewis. “This is providing women with raw, real, inspiration, helping them to realize the greatness that already exists within themselves. Diversity is the answer to making this happen.”
The film will be released on June 21 on EPIX in the U.S.; Canadian distribution is still being secured. Watch the trailer below.
