Proenza Schouler

The look: At Proenza Schouler, both aesthetics and attitude were considered when prepping models’ hair for Monday afternoon’s show. “It’s a gorgeous day outside, so we sent everyone out to air dry,” says hairstylist Anthony Turner. “We wanted the models to feel very optimistic and upbeat – it really is about individuality. All the little mistakes we get in the hair after it’s been freshly washed is what we’re enjoying.”

DIY: Make like the models and let your hair air dry, but do temper the frizz a little. “We don’t want a lot of frizz, we still have a little polish to the hair,” says Turner. Once hair has dried, add a dime sized amount of Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil ($50, sephora.com).

Victoria Beckham

The look: Redken Global Director Guido Palau created the futuristic look for Victoria Beckham’s SS 17 collection. “We’re doing super straight, clean hair.”

DIY: Create a sharp part in the centre of your head, and apply a small amount of Redken Satin Wear 02 Prepping Blow-Dry Lotion ($19, walmart.com), from roots to tips for heat protection as well as shine. Commence the blow-out. “As I’m blow-drying, I’m using a boar-bristled brush to smooth out the hair,” says Palau. “To finish it off, I’m using an [flat] iron to give hair that shiny, smooth texture.”

Self Portrait

The look: Bb editorial stylist Jimmy Paul wanted to create natural, easy hair with sheen. “It’s not anything tricky or conceptual, it’s the way a girl would come to a casting,” he says.

DIY: Dampen hair with Bumble and bumble Prep ($24, bumbleandbumble.com) and blow dry with Bb. Curl Conditioning Mousse ($37, sephora.com), scrunching sections as you go to get natural movement and curl. Complete the look by tucking your behind your ears.

Lacoste

The look: Bumble and bumble Global Artistic Director Laurent Philippon wanted models’ hair to look similar to their natural texture. “We’re respecting the models’ hair and just making it slightly better. I really think we’re in a period where the message is, embrace what you have and make the best out of it. Every hair texture is beautiful, it’s just a question of knowing how to deal with it and using the right product.”

DIY: “Some girls need product, some girls need extensions and on some girls, we’re just placing the part properly,” says Philippon. Let hair air dry, and layer in Bumble and bumble Bb. Curl (Style) Primer ($31, at sephora.com) to smooth frizz and give hair some weight.

Creatures of the Wind

The look: “I wanted to pull a sporty look from that hair but didn’t want everyone to look robotic or the same,” says hairstylist Holli Smith about the hair she created for Creatures of the Wind. While some models wore hair down, a select few were styled with a headband and a tight chignon.

DIY: To give hair a little bit of a grip, Smith spritzed models’ locks with both Bumble and bumble Surf Spray ($31, sephora.ca) and Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray ($29, bumbleandbumble.com). Then she tucked a thick fabric headband just behind their ears, and wrapped hair into a loose bun. To give the look a sportier, more carefree feel, Smith plucked small wisps of hair out from around the headband.

Yeezy Season 4

The look: “Although it’s such a large group (250 models walked in the rapper-designer’s show), each with their own unique style, the general theme would be embracing natural texture,” says hairstylist Guido Palau, Redken Global Director. “The ideal hair cut will allow women’s curls come out, and feel comfortable letting their hair dry naturally. I think women sometimes get a little bit uncomfortable because they think it looks messy, but if the hair is well shaped, then the style has a good foundation.”

DIY: Let hair air dry, and then spritz in Redken Spray Curvaceous CCC Spray ($18, redken.ca) to help shape your curls. Add a little more definition by curling a few sections with different sized curling wands, focusing on hair around the face. To add shine, scrunch curls with Redken Diamond Oil ($74, walmart.com).

Baja East

The look: “The thing that really unifies all the models is the bandana – otherwise every model has an individual look,” says Redken Global Director Guido Palau. “The bandana adds a bit of masculinity to help give each girl a more androgynous look. It’s funny how putting a scarf around the hair can really add some masculinity with a bit of a hippie vibe.”

DIY: Let hair air dry, and then create a messy part down the middle. “I’ve added a good amount of our Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist ($20, redken.ca) into the hair to give the models a but of a sweaty look, like maybe they’ve been out all night dancing,” says Palau.  Fold a bandana in half and tie across your forehead, knotting at the back. Pull a few random strands out from the bandana to create an imperfect look.

Jeremy Scott

The look: Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman brought a retro feel to the runway with this ’80s, geometric bob.

DIY: If you’re brave enough to actually chop your locks, ask for an asymmetrical, chin length cut. The charm behind this look is the uneven, chunky pieces. Not ready to take plunge and commit to the cut? Never fear, Hailey Baldwin didn’t either; Souleiman used wigs to create this dramatic look.

Tibi

The look: Low, slicked ponytails and belts were used to create this unexpected look on the runway at Tibi. We’re sort of in love with it!

DIY: Hairstylist Frank Rizzieri styled model’s hair into low ponies, and secured custom made belts around the elastic band, leaving a large tail to cascade down the girls’ backs as they strutted down the runway. While we might not choose to head to the office with a belt fastened anywhere other than our waist, we’re super inspired to try this look with a long satin ribbon or scarf.

Thakoon

The look: Hairstylist Odile Gilbert tied model’s hair into wet, glossy chignons backstage at Thakoon, leaving one flirtatious strand dangling in front of the lashes.

DIY: Wet hair down with Kérastase Crème de la Crème blow-dry cream ($40, kerastase.ca) for that slightly greasy look, and remove one strand near your forehead to frame the face. Twist the bulk of your hair up into a tight bun and secure.
