Not only did Dua Lipa show off her new romance with filmmaker Romain Gavras at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend, but she debuted a brand new haircut, too! The latter being a beauty journalist’s (me) highlight… No beau could ever compete with such a transformation, IMO.

Stepping out onto the red carpet in head-to-toe glam, Dua’s previously styled 00s side sweeping fringe has now taken a full turn. Quite literally, that is. Enter: wispy waterfall bangs.

Taking to Instagram with a five-part Instagram carousel post, Dua writes as the caption: “Hier soir à Cannes avec mon cœur,” which translates to: “Last night in Cannes with my sweetheart.”

For the special occasion, the singer’s hairstylist, Rio Sreedharan, gave her a super chic twisted updo, teasing out her wispy fringe to sit across her face and skimming over her eyes.

Now, descriptions aside, you may be wondering what the technicalities are behind such hair jargon (read: waterfall). Giving more texture and definition to her face-framing look, the star’s fringe is now of a more gradient, full style, swooping across both sides of her face rather than just one.

Forget “One Kiss” for all it takes fallin’ in love with Dua is a fringe. Romain, you’ve got competition. And as we can see from the reference pics above, the cut is defined by longer pieces of hair that gradually reduce in length the further inward they get – but still maintain a wispy, piecey, undone finish. Hence it’s waterfall name, if you will.
