Get the look: Chrissy Teigen’s beachy waves
I can’t pinpoint the exact moment that model Chrissy Teigen came on my radar, but I can no longer imagine scrolling through my Instagram feed without her witty, jealousy-inducing presence on it. David Lopez, T3’s lead stylist, had the good fortune of styling Teigen’s hair for the recent launch party of Sports Illustrated‘s swimsuit edition. Here’s how you can recreate her “unkept, just-out-of-the-ocean” look:
Step 1: Prep damp hair with a texturizer. David used Kevin Murphy Anti-Gravity Texturizer and Hair Resort Beach Texturizer Spray.
Step 2: Rough dry hair with fingers (not a brush) using the T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i Dryer, allowing the part to fall naturally.
Step 3: Curl hair from root to mid-shaft using a curling iron with a 1-inch barrel, like T3 Whirl Trio Interchangeable Styling Wand. Make sure to leave 4 inches of uncurled hair at the bottom, which creates a “ropey wave.” (Obviously, if your hair is shorter than Teigen’s adjust the ratio of curled hair to uncurled hair accordingly.)
Step 4: Take the uncurled bottom portion of the hair and wrap it loosely around the iron in alternating directions to create bends in the hair.
Step 5: Use a straightening iron to smooth out any frizz at the front of the head, then rake hands through hair to loosen the waves.
Step 6: Finish the look with a shine spray applied all over the head.
