Chic-yet mass. It’s a strategy that has worked well for IKEA and Target, and now it’s the philosophical push behind Garnier, explains Jacques Challes, general manager of Garnier International. “It’s about bringing classic design to the masses,” he explained at the Paris launch of the company’s four new skin care lines.

It’s also about creating beauty products that are effective, yet affordable. Known for its hair products (who can miss that lime-green Fructis bottle?) Garnier is now launching The Skin Naturals lines in Canada. The products will retail for between $8 and $15.

Soft The rose extract in this line is the key ingredient in the cleansing cream, facial cloths and moisturizer. “The rose extract and the micro-oils comfort, repair and nourish the skin,” explains Nathalie de Champlain, Garnier’s Canadian skin care product manager.

Pure If you have acne-prone skin, the Pure products, which include a cleansing gel, scrub, toner, moisturizer and antiblemish spot pen, all contain cucumber and zinc, which reduces sebum production and purifies the skin. “This line offers the complete package for healthy skin.”

LiftGinger and cherry extracts in the day, night and eye-firming creams smooth the skin. “It’s the first time we’ve used ginger in a cream,” says de Champlain. “Just as ginger can ease an upset stomach, we found that it also has dermo-relaxing properties.”

Fresh For normal or combo skin, the fruit waters in the cleansing gel, toner and moisturizer are re-hydrating and refreshing. “We use a process we developed called flash distillation, which allows us to extract 100 percent pure fruit juice,” explains de Champlain. “These juices really quench, hydrate and comfort the skin.”
