Trend of the month

Orange crush

A beach vacation may be months away — but at least your makeup can go tropical. Models at Stella McCartney and Sonia Rykiel took a shine to sun-kissed coral, with bold, high-gloss lips making the biggest impact. A pop of colour on the nails is just as lovely, or go subtle with a tawny blush or shadow.

Eye spy

Shiseido’s newest eye cream contains an extract from the Asian citrus fruit yuzu — which boosts the production of hyaluronic acid, a natural moisturizer — to plump up the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines.

What’s new?

CARGO’s blu_ray makeup line was created for high-definition film and television, but it works just as well offcamera. The products contain light diffusers and pigments that stay true in all types of lighting, delivering full but natural-looking coverage.

Must-have: Colour story

Is adaptable makeup the future of beauty? Lancôme’s L.U.C.I collection adjusts to all skin tones. The products are pigmentfree — eyeshadows come with a coloured powder — but contain minerals, like mica, that capture light and act like prisms, reflecting hues that look different on every complexion.

Ask a derm

Q: What does vitamin C do for the skin, and what’s the best way to reap its benefits?
A:
"Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant," says Dr. Lisa Kellett of
DLK On Avenue. "It clears away free radicals, which impair skin healing. The ideal way to get your vitamin C is through diet and a multivitamin, but topical applications have an antioxidant effect as well. Most over-the-counter creams contain two to five

percent, which may be effective, or a pharmacist can prepare a 35-percent vitamin C solution that you can add to your face cream. Mild creams can be used twice a day, but more-potent formulations should be used only in the morning."

Face forward

Not ready to go under the knife? Two new Olay Regenerist products mimic dermatologist procedures — without the expense or downtime. The 14 Day Skin Intervention contains a serum to exfoliate, a peptide complex to hydrate and plump up the skin and finely crushed powders to fill in fine lines. If you still have trouble spots (such as the forehead, mouth and eye area), apply the Fill Seal Wrinkle Treatment in the morning over your regular moisturizer. The vitamin E-rich cream works like a filler to hide and smooth fine lines. So there’s no need to put your derm on speed-dial just yet.
