For the 2016 Grammy Awards, Zendaya did something celebs pretty much never do for a red carpet event: her own makeup. Here are four things we can learn from her technique:

1. Products can be made multi-purpose. “I am a huge eyeshadow fan and currently loving truNAKED Eyeshadow Palettes because they are really pigmented and are so versatile,” says the latest Covergirl. “I even used the lighter shade within the palette as a highlighter on my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose and on the cupids bow.”

2. Brows make the look. “I always finish any look by grooming my brows – it’s key!”

3. Eye makeup first, foundation second. “Once my eyes are done, I apply foundation to clean up any mistakes or eyeshadow that sprinkled on my face. I started by applying foundation at the center of my face and worked my way out.”

4. Re: lipstick – layer, layer, layer.
