Ask any beauty editor about last year’s most important haircut and they’ll likely wax poetic about J-Law’s pixie haircut. At least this one will. Of course, the mainstream hated it, unkindly comparing it to Kate Gosselin’s ‘do, but even hair genius Orlando Pita endorsed it. (We wrote about the short haircut in our February issue, too.)

When I interviewed my high-maintenance hair hero backstage at New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 this February, he couldn’t get enough of her cut. At Oscar de la Renta, Pita was creating short, choppy cuts to go along with ODLR’s lush, heavy gowns. "It’s something I look at and I think it looks old when I see these young girls with these hairdos and evening dresses. I think Jennifer Lawrence looks really cool in an evening dress. I’m going to accentuate that."

See that? Her haircut was Orlando approved. #neverhappens
