How’s this for a stat? A Pew research study, published earlier this year, reported that 5 percent of Americans who are married or in a committed relationship met their main squeeze online. If that doesn’t seem like a lot, let’s recall that in 1995, only 14 percent of adults used the internet at ALL—let alone as a way to meet the person they might spend the rest of their life with. (In Canada, Match.com reports that 39 percent of Canuck singletons know someone who connected with their current flame via the net).

That Pew study also reported that 10 percent of 18 to 24 year olds and 8 percent of 45 to 54 year olds call themselves “online daters.” That means whatever your age and stage of life, there’s a pretty good chance the internet has played a significant part in your love life.
