At 25, Victoria Christina Hesketh (aka Little Boots) has accomplished more than most do by the age of 40. A one time reject of Britain’s famous Pop Idol, this talented chanteuse is quietly proving she’s more than just a reality show moment. She fronted the all girl indie band Dead Disco but eventually left to become the tornado of electric pop known as Little Boots. She’s not completely unknown, especially in her homeland (U.K) - unfortunately her debut full-length album isn’t due out in North America until 2010, but we all know there are ways around that. So here’s the skinny, yup that’s right, the skinny. Little Boots hasn’t exactly re-invented the World Wide Web (isn’t it time to change that saying anyhow?) but she’s certainly put her own spin on it. Hot on the heels of Ladyhawke, Lily Allen and Girls Aloud, Little Boots rivals the aforementioned artists with a debut as explosive as Pop Rocks and just as sweet.
Rocking out on the keyboard, piano, stylophone and Tenori-on (Japenese electronic instrument) Little Boots debut album HANDS is the perfect soundtrack for a breezy day behind the wheel, with nothing before you but the open road. My favorite track is “Stuck on Repeat” which sounds a bit like Kylie. Not to be skipped while you’re driving the strip, are electro-pop goodies like “Meddle”, opening track “New In Town” and the amazing duet “Symmetry”, featuring The Human League singer Philip Oakley (Yes I want you, baby). It’s amazing.
Take my advice and order this one long before it’s available in your corner HMV store. It’ll be the soundtrack of you summer.
Passion Pit is a must-have road trip CD on the next page ...
