Kate Winslet’s spokesperson has laughed off rumors the actress and her new husband will celebrate their wedding in space.
Kate Winslet’s spokesperson has brushed off reports she will celebrate her wedding in space.
The 37-year-old Oscar winner secretly tied the knot with Ned RocknRoll in New York City earlier this month.
Reports suggested Ned’s uncle, Virgin tycoon Sir Richard Branson, had invited the newlyweds to join him on his Virgin Galactic space flight next year.
According to British newspaper The Sun, Richard wanted Kate to have the flight as a thank you for rescuing his mother after a fire broke out on his private Necker Island retreat last year and thought to give the couple tickets as a wedding gift.
Ned works part-time for the space-traveling division of the Virgin empire, as E! News reports.
However, Kate’s spokesperson told the network the story is false.
“[The story] was invented a while ago,” the representative said, adding that it has “been adapted to fit this week’s events”.
Richard’s two-hour Virgin Galactic space journey has proved popular with celebrities.
Ashton Kutcher, Russell Brand and Stephen Hawking have purchased tickets to the flight, which will take passengers 60 miles above the Earth where they can experience weightlessness.
Tickets sell for £124,000.
Ned, born Abel Smith, began dating Kate last year after meeting on Richard’s Necker Island.
It is the actress’ third marriage. She was married to director Jim Threapleton for three years until 2001. The former couple share a 12-year-old daughter.
She married director Sam Mendes in 2003. They were married for seven years and share a nine-year-old son.
