Q: I'm 5'6" and very slim with a good figure, but I have a long torso. I find when I wear low-rider pants, certain outfits make my waist look longer. What are some good rules to follow to avoid this?

A:
One of the keys to good style is finding the clothes that suit your body best. For advice on your shape, I chatted with Veronica Auyeung at Toronto boutique Over The Rainbow. She says:

"This is a problem that most women face, myself included. I find that because jeans are so low still that women with long torsos look even more elongated and unproportioned. To avoid this, you can try wearing longer tops. Avoid anything cropped or with vertical stripes! Layering can also be an asset -- there are plenty of tunic-style T-shirts and tops out there today that are great for layering."

Q: What type of jeans do you recommend for someone who has a perfectly flat butt? I am an avid walker and my daily routine includes a three-km uphill walk. This has ensured that I have a tight butt; however, it's as flat as a board. Next to surgery, I don't know what to do. Please tell me there are jeans out there that help with this physical flaw -- I really don't want to wear those nasty-looking butt shapers!

A:
Ah, the perennial question -- finding the perfect pair of jeans for your figure. I asked Veronica for her suggestions for this ELLE reader. She says:

"Let's face it, when it comes to jeans, the butt is the most important thing. Why else would companies go to great lengths to embroider, stud and crystallize jean pockets? Those of you who are unlike the Jennifer Lopezes of the world can try jeans with higher, smaller angled pockets. Anything with a low pocket or a large pocket will make your bum appear flatter than it already is. But be aware that it will not perform miracles, it will simply work and enhance what you have."
