AUSTERE
How would you define this trend?
A strict and severe paired-down approach where restraint is key! Sculpted shapes and clean lines project a less-is-more minimalist style.
What are the key pieces?
Prim, knee-length dressing in sombre colours referencing the “lady” look of the ’50s: the LBD with contrasting Peter Pan collar or the fitted black skirtsuit with a white bow blouse firmly tied around the neck.
How do I finish off this look?
Wear crocheted tights—unless you dare a nude leg—and platform booties and forget the jewellery.

- ORANGE
Which shade is hot this season?
From vibrant citrus to a gentler burnt orange.
Is it a hard colour to wear?
Not if you avoid a complete head-to-toe look.
Isn’t it usually associated with summer?
Forget the old rules! Colours are now seasonless.
What colours work best with orange?
Black and beige look great when worn with orange hues. Fashion-forward types may want to try a deep red or fuchsia, as seen at Bottega Veneta.
What piece should I invest in?
A print pullover or a tailored coat.
What colour should I look for in accessories?
Black is the easiest choice for belts, bags, shoes and boots. Chestnut and brown can work too, but be careful—you don’t want to look like you work at a fast-food restaurant!
Who did it best?
BCBGMAXAZRIA, Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry Prorsum, Dries Van Noten, Céline and Miu Miu.

LADY
How will I recognize the “lady” trend?
It’s a sophisticated, bourgeois style reminiscent of ’50s Hollywood, especially the heroines in Hitchcock films: perfectly chic, with a top-to-toe polish that is, dare we say, done!
What are the trend’s key pieces?
Razor-thin pencil skirts, bow-tied blouses, past-the-knee day dresses, skirtsuits, tailored shifts and three-quarter-sleeve coats.
Who can wear it?
Professional gals who want a feminine, sleek style.
How do I accessorize?
Hats, gloves (the new essential), fur wraps, pearl necklaces, structured frame bags and tights (ultra-sheer or crochet).
How can I make this look work for me?
Downplay extravagant accessories, keep hair simple and go for naturallooking makeup to avoid looking like a Mad Men cast member.
Who did it best?
Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Lanvin, Donna Karan and Jean Paul Gaultier.

COATS
What are the coats of the season?
Strict, classic-cut coats with a masculine appeal; tailored and belted ’60s styles that snugly accentuate the female figure (fur collar and cuffs optional); voluminous, rounded, cocooning blanket types; and floor-sweeping ’70s versions.
What about sporty styles?
The runways showed lots of fur-trimmed utility parkas—either cropped or maxi-length— toppers that can be worn 24-7.
Was there a lot of fur?
Designers let the fur fly, whether full-on or in the tiniest of trims. Leather was often paired with short- or long-haired fur (Mongolian lamb or fox) making the cool coat of the season ’70s inspired. If fur is your foe and faux your friend, you can still enjoy this fab frenzy in diverse styles from posh and pretty to blown-out beastly.
Top colour choices?
Lots of black, obviously, as well grey and chestnut. Prefer colour? We also saw some in cherry red and pumpkin orange!
Top fabric choice?

SIXTIES
How would you describe this trend?
It’s a flashback to the iconic styles of Courrèges, Pierre Cardin and London’s cool mod scene. Graphic shapes, clean lines, vinyl and plastic and the ever-so-popular knits take centre stage.
Key pieces for this look?
Minidresses, snug tailored coats with matching pants, pleated schoolgirl skirts and turtlenecks.
Who can wear it?
Any vibrant, fun dolly bird! What about accessories? Knee-high boots, Mary Janes, Expo 67 hostess hats, matte-coloured tights and long, long legs.
What’s the one item I should buy?
A sleeveless, drop-waist shift dress is a definite must!
What prints are on trend?
Check out the blanket patterns at Burberry Prorsum, square motifs at Prada and Prince of Wales plaids at Yves Saint Laurent.
