Our February fashion shoot was a real family affair –  the models, Tyg and Elizabeth, were sisters. The Vancouver-born sister duo is taking fashion by storm. Between them, they’ve walked for Marc Jacobs, Prada and Alexander Wang, to name a few. We caught up with the duo on-set and discovered that their unique identities are the key to their bond.

MODERN MUSES

Tyg: “I never had any intention of modeling. I’d sew dresses for Elizabeth out of our mom’s sheets and take her photo.”

Elizabeth: “Tyg was the fashion baby. I was more of a tomboy.”

T: “Our aunt was friends with someone who owned a modeling agency in Vancouver, and Elizabeth got signed first. She moved to New York and I went to visit and we both got booked for a shoot. And then the agency signed me as well.”

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

T: “I don’t think my name, Lauren, suits me at all. When I was a baby, my parents called me Tigger, from Winnie the Pooh, and then Elizabeth started calling me Tyg.”

NO SHADE

E: “We’ve always been able to stay close and not get competitive. We have such different looks, so I never feel bad about myself when she does well.”

CHEERLEADER

T: “Modeling is an emotional roller coaster. Having Elizabeth listen when I want to cry about getting dropped from a show means so much.”

TIME OUT

T: “When we’re in Vancouver, we go hiking a lot. The mountains and forest there are so beautiful. But Alberta is our place to escape everything.”

OFF-DUTY STYLE

T: “We both mix a lot of menswear into our wardrobes. Skinny jeans give me anxiety, so I don’t wear them.”

E: “I used to think I could make sweatpants look cool. But now my style is more country girl.”

SISTER GOALS

T: “We always wanted to walk a show together, and last couture season we did Jean Paul Gaultier. He was one of the first designers I worked with, so it was really special.”

TOGETHER FOREVER

T: “Shooting with my best friend is amazing. It’s going to be lovely to have pictures we can show people when we’re old and wrinkly.”
