The coat

Thankfully, there’s a chic way to stay warm this winter. Coats with clean lines in wool, cashmere, leather and fur were interpreted in everything from peacoat and chesterfield to parka, cocoon and frock.

LACE.jpg

Lace

Goth glam arouses an erotic frisson in black lace as summer’s hit boudoir-dressing trend continues to cast its spell of feminine mystique.

SILHOUETTE.jpg

The silhouette

Not body-baring or showy, the neo-lady mood references a traditional buttoned-up and proper side in retro silhouettes, cinched waists and long, lean, mid-calf-grazing hems.

Minimalism, white and leather on the next page …
MIN.jpg

Minimalism

Phoebe Philo’s spring collection at Celine continues to influence top designers with a utilitarian, pared-down approach to fashion. Sculpted shapes and clean lines adopt a less-is-more attitude in an array of simple, spare silhouettes.

WHITE.jpg

White

Wipe the slate clean—forget the old rule about wearing white in cold weather. Sleek and sharp, white shakes up winter’s sober palette.

LEATHER.jpg

Leather

Slick, buttery-soft black leather combines proper with sexy, stirring up naughty notions. We love the tie-neck blouse at Gianfranco Ferré, fitted tees at Celine, full-petticoat skirts at Louis Vuitton and the DB boyfriend pantsuit at Bottega Veneta.

Hot hues, fur and the suit on the next page …
HOT-HUES.jpg

Hot hues

Get ready for that one exit popping with unexpected colour on every catwalk. Luscious berry-reds and fiery oranges— bordeaux, rust, vermilion, prune and persimmon—ignited the flash factor as one of the hottest trends to come.

FUR.jpg

Fur

Fierce fur flew down the runways in a mad explosion of long-haired goat, Mongolian lamb, lynx, coyote, shearling…. All made for a top-to-toe fuzzy extravaganza in everything from coats and skirts to bags and boots.

SUIT.jpg

The suit

Tailored and timeless, the suit was the leading look in the collections, making it a must—with a skirt or pants—for fall. Whether it’s the DB flannel versions at Michael Kors, gold brocade at Balmain or Mad Men curves at Dolce & Gabbana, the suit is a smart investment.

Skirts, the pullover and neutrals on the next page …
SKIRT.jpg

The skirt

The key message? Volume. Louis Vuitton flaunted the female form in circular shapes, Michael Kors flirted with A-line versions and Yves Saint Laurent swung in trapeze styles. Length? Most hemlines fell below the knee, so play the prim card!

PULLOVER.jpg

The pullover

Classic sportswear is back! This season’s must-have topper is the basic crewneck sweater. It was updated in sweatshirt styles at Dries Van Noten, snug, cabled motifs at Aquilano.Rimondi and perforated geometric prints at Balenciaga.

NEUTRAL.jpg

Neutrals

Beige boring? Not at all! Traditional camel colourways—a paler shade of brown with a grown-up connotation—is the new black in sartorial security dressing. P.S. Grey, the other standout neutral, makes for a strong complementary hue.

Knits and lady on the next page …
KNIT.jpg

Knits

Fetch the knitting needles! Cozy up to stitched patterns at Prada, Nordic prints at D&G or patchwork styles with fur at Chanel for a play on textures that will definitely leave you feeling loopy.

Dress.jpg

Lady

A return to the ’50s: Polished, bourgeois dressing was an everyday affair and gals were, dare we say, done! Think neat suits, New Look shapes, cocktail dresses, tie-neck blouses, cat’seye frames and pointy pumps.
