Miaou's "Brigitte" jeans.
Prepare to gain a new appreciation for grommets.
The story of Alexia Elkaim's new denim label Miaou (pronounced "meow," in case you were wondering) is a bit like the plot of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. "I wanted to make a pair of jeans that fit all of my friends," says Elkaim, who was inspired by a pair of jeans she picked up a flea market in Paris. "I thought 'let me see what I can do with this pattern.'"
Elkaim, who previously worked as a music editor at CR Fashion Book and then as a casting agent, is quick to admit that she's not a "denim girl," explaining that her jeans are meant for someone who prefers to wear dresses. "My jeans are novelty pieces, maybe you could wear them everyday, but you don't see jeans like this everyday."
Elkaim photographed her friends for the lookbook, and struck gold when her first design, the Brigitte – a high-rise, tight fitting jeans with rope and grommet embellishments – were spotted on Bella Hadid. "Celebrity seeding is everything," says Elkaim, whose Instagram DMs blew up after photos of Bella in the jeans appeared on The Daily Mail in November of last year. "She's the only celebrity I sent my jeans to, and they look great on her. I'm glad it was successful."
And what about the jeans' most prominent feature, those strategically placed grommets? Elkaim's answer is simple: "I think grommets are sexy and cool." The other standout feature of Miaou jeans is the lack of a waistband. According to Elkaim, this allows the denim to hug the body without pinching.
Elkaim is slowly working her way up to a full collection. For now, she's released the Tommy, a jean with a looser fit through the leg as well as a pinstripe pant that's very Wall Street-meets-Clueless. Each pair features those now-signature grommets, through which you can thread a glittery chain or a colourful satin tie.
When asked to give advice to anyone dreaming of starting their own line, Elkaim emphasizes focusing on one product: "Make it the best product you can, so when people look at it they will associate you with your product – that's when you know you have a brand. A brand is known for something, always."
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie just released their first joint statement post-divorce announcement...and it's basically a guarantee that you'll never hear from either of them again on the matter.
A day after Brad's surprise Globes appearance, he and his estranged wife Angelina shut the book on several months of rather nasty legal back-and-forth about their divorce-in-progress.
According to CNN, they've agreed to seal all of the court proceedings moving forward in the interest of their six children. This is particularly relevant since Angelina is suing for physical custody of the brood while Pitt is asking for joint custody.
The fact that they're agreeing to seal the proceedings is a big deal because just a month ago Pitt filed to do this himself, claiming he wanted to protect his children's privacy. Jolie's people fired back that he was actually doing it to protect himself. Pitt then responded by filing further docs with the court containing the infamous claim that Angeline has "no self-regulating mechanism".
Today's new statement, however, concludes on a civil note:
"The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification."

From a distance.
Serena Williams trolled us hard this week, posting on Instagram a faux "sneak peek" of her engagement ring from Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.
But now it seems we've gotten a first glimpse of the real thing. She shared – on Reddit, naturally – an image of her and Ohanian with the title "engagement shoe game."
From what we can see, the ring looks gorgeous. Sneakers are pretty on point too.

Proof you can keep some things secret in Hollywood if you want to.
Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley are the proud parents of a baby boy – for almost a month now! The parents, who welcomed son Joshua Bishop Kelley Jr. on Dec. 20, just confirmed the happy news to People Magazine. The Grey's Anatomy star and her musician husband also have two daughters, Adalaide, 4, and Naleigh, 8.
Heigl had previously said that the pregnancy was a surprise. (Both their daughters are adopted.) "We’ve known for awhile that we wanted to add to our family and frankly didn’t really care how we chose to do that. We were considering adoption again, fostering, or pregnancy if possible. Seeing as I have never been pregnant and as my OB/GYN reminded me last year, I’m of advanced maternal age, I wasn’t sure pregnancy was even in the cards for us. Turns out it was very much in the cards!"
