ELLECanada.com reviews the best of LG Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2009.
![]() | NADA Apocalyptic tunes by Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails set the stage for Nada Shepherd’s take on a post-utopian future where humanity is at the brink of extinction. Models hit the runway with hair pulled back into high ponytails, eyebrows whited out, black gloss on their lips and not a smile in sight. Accessories are heavy and industrial and help bring the futuristic theme home, but the collection itself isn’t quite as scary as the theatrics would have you believe. Edgier pieces like rubber leggings, quilted leather yoke tops and a parachute flight suit were juxtaposed by creamy ruffled blouses and pretty pink tops with ruffled cap sleeves. The finale, however, was all dystopic glam: a dramatic black embossed leather gown with pannier-enforced skirt a la 18th century, only less tea and crumpettes, more end of the world. —NW |
![]() | Ed Hardy Swim and Snow A swimwear show during the fall shows in Toronto may seem a little out of place but don’t forget, this is Ed Hardy Swim and Snow, which can only mean one thing: buff models wearing remixed outfits of bikinis and parkas, swim trunks and snow goggles…and nothing in between. Produced by French designer Christian Audigier (the man behind the Von Dutch craze) the collection’s bright colours, skull-emblazoned everything and rock ‘n roll attitude promise to take the tattoo-obsessed from the surf to the slopes with barely a wardrobe change. For Don Ed Hardy fans, its the closest they’ll likely ever get to getting inked by the man known as the godfather of the modern tattoo. —NW |
