ELLECanada.com reviews the best of LG Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2009.
![]() | Joeffer Caoc It’s Joeffer’s turn at the catwalk and there’s not an empty seat in sight. Fashion week veterans know his show is always one of the week’s highlights and when the lights go on, Joeffer doesn’t disappoint. On display is an elegant exploration of hard versus soft: silvery metallics, liquid blacks and high-gloss sculptural fabrics play off of delicate, sheer, muted greys; slim, sexy silhouettes show off volume in low slung trousers and puffed shoulders. Creative use of materials including metallic silks, nylon, jersey, cashmere and faux-fur lend a sense of sophistication, power and richness. Drama arrives in many forms, from a sexy red cocktail dress to a faux-hair car coat to, the showstopper, a gold silk metallic bodysuit with tulle and organza insets…because why not? —Nancy Won |
![]() | Lundström Linda Lundström has been through the fashion ringer, but with last winter’s bankruptcy behind her and a new investor acting as the wind beneath her proverbial wings, this veteran Canadian designer returns to the runway (and the spotlight!) this season after a 20-year absence. The new look for Lundström is fresh and pared down, as in simple jersey dresses, skinny pants and pretty coquettish tops, but the highlights of the collection -- and Linda’s specialty -- are the coats. With an elegant, more sophisticated take on the Canadiana trend in outerwear, Linda’s standout pieces include a snow white parka with fur trim around the hood and sleeves, a black-and-white checked lumber jacket that cinches at the waist, and a charcoal elliptical bomber with removable fur trim. And for the eco-conscious, 50 per cent of the fabrics used in her collection are green. —NW |
Project Runway Canada
Security at the tents becomes claustrophobically tight as the Project Runway show -- the hot ticket of the night -- draws nigh. Young volunteer gate keepers display near heroic vigilance in keeping out the uninvited while those of us lucky enough to be clutching a rare ticket are ushered onto the set -- er, runway. Every seat in the house is reserved and A-list names dominate the front row, including Elisha Cuthbert, Coco Rocha and, of course, Iman herself. As the final collections make their way down the runway, some looks elicit spontaneous applause from the audience, while others only dropped jaws. Tune in to the Project Runway Canada finale on April 14 to see who makes the final cut and witness all of the fabulousness and the flops for yourself. —NW
