Half the fun of seeing the new collections is anticipating who will fill the coveted front row spots at the shows. But out of all the stars from New York to Paris, who made our best dressed list? Dakota Fanning, who was a major fixture at the New York shows; Solange Knowles for her ingenious ability to mix prints; fashion’s perennial “it” girl Alexa Chung; reality star turned fashion aficionado Olivia Palermo; the controversial singer songwriter Lana Del Rey; and Hollywood veteran Helen Mirren.
Best dressed celebrity: Dakota Fanning
This definitive teen muse was a front row fixture at some of Fall 2012’s most exclusive shows like Rodarte, Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs. For each presentation, she showed up clad in that designer’s best of-the-moment looks. Our favourite look was the somewhat futuristic ensemble of gold pants paired with a gold and turquoise wrap top that she wore to Rodarte’s show.
Best dressed celebrity: Solange Knowles
Beyonce’s baby sister proved that good taste runs in the family. Front row at Diane Von Furstenberg and Charlotte Ronson in New York and at Dolce & Gabanna in Milan, Solange expressed her current love of prints and bright colours. Her willingness to tale a risk with clashing prints showed, pairing a blue and white floral skirt and jacket combo with a red print blouse. Completing the primary colour chart, she topped it all off with a pair of bright yellow pointy pumps.
Best dressed celebrity: Alexa Chung
British Fashion Council recently named Alexa Chung the Young Style Ambassador, so it’s only natural that Alexa was front row at numerous London Fashion Week shows. Her best look was the all black ensemble she donned at Burberry, with only a crisp white dress shirt peeking under a black coat. Of course, buttoned-up collars have become her signature, but Alexa is also one of few front rowers that embrace flat shoes, opting for a simple black patent loafer.
