Transitioning tips
Transitioning your wardrobe may seem like a difficult task (what with Canada’s unpredictable climate – one minute it’s hot, the next it’s cold). But there are some easy, effortless ways to update your closet (and you don’t have to break the bank, either).
All about colour
Although it’s getting cooler, this season’s runways were awash in warm-weather colours – blues, purples, reds and oranges. Take an update-your-wardrobe cue from I Want, I Got’s fashion blogger Anita Clarke: “I like to add a bit of colour with my leggings and tights in the fall.” And, she’s not afraid to wear white after Labour Day (just be sure to offset the hue with darker colours to make it fall-friendly). Don't stop at coloured leggings -- add pops of a new hue in suede boots, a bold jacket, sexy leather gloves, or a new bag. The possibilities are endless!
Accesorize, accessorize, accessorize!
From bold multi-chain necklaces at Missoni to bib necklaces at Jason Wu, fall’s runways were laden with accessories. Even leather booties and bold wrist cuffs made a play at Gucci's fall collection. So it’s no wonder fashion guru (and our very own ELLE Canada fashion contributor) Nathalie Atkinson revives her summer wardrobe with a few fall-worthy accessories. For her, “a cute clutch in a bright colour and a honkin' big bib necklace or crazy bracelet (I love Club Monaco’s jewellery right now) or new shoes or booties,” are perfect for dressing up an outfit.
For the fellas
If all else fails (and your budget is bust), focus on organization says NOW Toronto’s fashion editor Andrew Sardone. “Going from summer to fall, I stash things like shorts, light coloured shoes and polo shirts as soon as Labour Day hits, but keep wearing my cotton dress shirts and khakis throughout September.” Come Thanksgiving, he rotates heavier suits and jackets into his fashion mix. Also, look to the back of your closet for older items that fit some fall 2009 trends: double breasted suits and blazers, cardigans and all things gray and black.
