Best surprise: Rihanna in Tom Ford
- Picture 9/10
- A perfect choice. This high-necked, low-backed Tom Ford pulls triple duty—it’s elegant, sexy, and captures the charisma of pop’s coolest star. Don’t you want to go to the after-party she’s going to?

Best dressed: Carey Mulligan in Prada
- Picture 1/10
- Last night’s Met Gala red carpet was awash in Prada, but it was Carey’s gold and silver pailette dress that completely captured our hearts. (Fitting for a glowing newlywed!) Sculptural, sexy and a little surreal, the frock was the perfect fit for an event celebrating two of the most visionary designers of the century. (Side note? Gwyneth’s surprising thumbs-down. Maybe after scoring a universal best-dressed nod at the 2012 Oscars, our G wanted to share the spotlight a little. Um, sure. Next year, we predict she brings it.)

Best flapper: Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren Collection
- Picture 3/10
- Doesn’t this make you so excited for The Great Gatsby remake? (December 2012, friends.) Camilla rocked it last night in a beaded tulle dress and the best beauty of the night—flawless skin with dark, dramatic lips.
