We're pretty excited about World MasterCard Fashion Week here at the office. And as editors and Toronto's fashion set roll into tent next week for the Spring 2014 shows, the Canadian designers presenting their collections will be backstage, putting together their final touches - and going by what they told us, running around around with pins and double-sided tape to make sure all their looks are perfectly on cue. (There may even be vodka.) We asked some of our favourite noted Canadian designers - plus a few noteworthy finalists from this year's Mercedes-Benz Start Up show - to mentally take us backstage with them for those final moments before their runway debuts. Lucy Dreamboat, designer sisters Louanna and Hilary Murphy #1 ritual for the night before a runway show: "Chill and have some giggles and treats." Top must-have items backstage: "Phones, bobby pins, needle and thread, double-sided tape." Describe the emotions you're feeling backstage in 5 words or less: "Excited, nervous, antsy, pumped, relief." What do you have planned for the day after the show? "We'll be heading back to our respective cities so we'll just enjoy each other’s company until we have to part ways." Caitlin Power Caitlin-Power-(photo-credit-Jeff-Kenneth-Lee-)

Describe the emotions you're feeling backstage in 5 words or less: "Excited, relaxed, enthusiastic, content." What do you have planned for the day after the show? #1 ritual for the night before a runway show: "Always working to ensure that the collection is 'finished' with all of the important detail requirements checked and re-checked. I may do last-minute fittings and/or alterations. My collections are all about the details and I am always making sure that all the hand work I have done is in order and in place. I love everything to be perfect, so I really make sure that everything looks beautiful." Top must-have items backstage: "My thimble, needle, thread, clippers, static guard are always at hand. I make sure I have extra matching buttons and pieces of fabric in case I need to make any last-minute adjustments. You never know when issues will arise and I want to be prepared." Describe the emotions you're feeling backstage in 5 words or less: "Inspiration for my next show!" What do you have planned for the day after the show? "Relax and reflect on the evening's events, spend time with my family (eat together) and walk my two greyhounds, Nila and Solomon. I will also spend a few hours at WMCFW observing the Saturday events that will be taking place." HIP AND BONE, designer Carlos Fogelman Carlos Fogelman HIP AND BONE

#1 ritual for the night before a runway show: "When time allows it, a workout helps settle my thoughts." Top must-have items backstage: "A steamer, clips to size styles to the model's figure, images of the outfits we took during fitting prior to show, water and vodka." Describe the emotions you're feeling backstage in 5 words or less: "Have fun but stay calm and cool." What do you have planned for the day after the show? "Meeting with press and buyers. However a good meal and some wine is always well deserved."
