Fashion statements: Rick Owens shook up the Paris spring 2014 season when American Step dancers stomped their way into fashion history challenging the lack of racial and body diversity on the runways. Off the runway, Iman, Naomi Campbell and former model agent BethAnn Hardison criticized designers for their lack of diversity. “Eyes are on an industry that season after season watches fashion design houses consistently use … one or no models of color. No matter the intention, the result is racism,” they wrote on a note that was posted on the site Balance Diversity. Karl Lagerfeld also played provocateur when he ended his “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” couture show with a pair of female brides.
