TORONTO: SHOE ART Status: Kick start What: Shoe maven TOMS offers up their comfy-yet-chic footwear as a canvas for local artists to interpret the meaning of giving in the Toronto stop of this multi-city tour (the collection of kicks touched down in Vancouver and Montreal earlier this summer). TORONTO: CARNIVAL Status: Let’s go What: It’s that time of year again—17 freewheeling days of funnel cakes, air shows, whack-a-mole and deep-fried everything before heading back to school or the office after the last long weekend of summer spent at the Canadian National Exhibition. When: From August 17 to September 3. Where: CNE grounds, 100 Princes' Blvd.. Buzzworthy notes: Everything from tacos and Tiny Tom Donuts to raw foods (pizza, cinnamon buns) at the infamous Toronto Star Food Building; a performance by former BSB Nick Carter; and of course, the petting zoo. VANCOUVER: COOKING Status: One dîner only What: In honour of the 100th birthday of the perennial American expat chef in Paris, French resto Bistro Pastis is hosting a cooking demo of Julia Child’s fave French recipes, plus an après-cooking five-course tasting menu for $65.
