Textstyles Adventures at New York Fashion Week, Fall 2011: Day Three

Day Three with fashion blogger Textstyles.ca at New York Fashion Week, Fall 2011.

Photography by Stefania Yarhi 3:00 am: New York wakes me up. The city never sleeps, hope that means I can't. 10:15 am: Showered, pressed and ready for fashion. I start my day at the tents with Carlos Miele. The collection felt like Halston went to the Middle East (But wait, it did in SATC2.) Shimmery harem pants, jumpsuits and cocoon shapes, ie: the '70s is most certainly back. Nouvelle editor of Vogue Paris Emmanuelle Alt was front and centre, all long leather legs and fur jacket. 11:30 am: Back at MILK Studios. I'm early for the next show, but when PR sends you a message that they've overbooked it's always best to get there on time. So I shoot backstage and then sit down to enjoy an americano in the media lounge and catch up on my Daily reading. 1:00 pm: Ohne Titel, one of New York's cult favourites. Designers Alexa Adams and Flora Gill set the stage for the future of fashion: "Lunar white" dresses with cascading pleats riff off of a traditional space suit, while knit dresses with exaggerated volumes play with traditional notions of proportion. The inspired collection warrants a second (if not third) viewing. 2:30 pm: Racing back uptown to capture some behind-the-scenes action at Chris Benz. Not surprising, it's hectic: too many people, too small a space. I love the wavy hair and pastel-frosted eyes on the models.  Key highlight:  Benz's collaboration with shoe designer Alejandro Ingelmo: platform stilts and wedges in paisley and woven leather. 3:15 pm: Fashion week is the best way to discover New York. I'm heading down to West 18th for Korean avant-garde line Parkchoomoo. I make it just in time for the first model to take the runway and thankfully I'm not the only one. The first look, a cozy duvet- esque jacket, inspired by uncut gemstones, the exaggerated volumes wrap around the body. I'll take one for next winter, thanks. Wool car coats, zipper details and uncut edges for that raw unconventional finish. But, it was the woven gold dress that captured my attention amidst the dark. 4:00 pm: Time for a pick-me up treat. A cookie fits the bill perfectly. 7:00 pm: Meet a fashion friend for drinks at 1534, a quaint Nolita cocktail bar. We read live tweets from Marc Jacobs show, almost as good as being there. 8:45 pm: One drink turns into two and suddenly it's time for dinner. We go around the corner to Lovely Day Thai restaurant, so good. 11:00 pm: Time to tuck this princess back into her pod.
