Nicole Richie’s resumé may be peripatetic — reality-TV star, novelist, wild child, mother — but her sense of personal style is unswerving. No surprise, then, that Richie launched a jewellery line, House of Harlow 1960, this spring that will expand to include clothing accessories next year. “I’ve always loved jewellery, but I didn’t know anything about designing,” explains Richie. “I was inspired by African and Indian jewellery books; I wanted the pieces to have a vintage but cultured feel.” The 35-piece line includes rings, necklaces, earrings and headpieces, which Richie cites as her favourite items: “I wear them all the time.” The prices are also recession-proof: One standout at $75 is a goldplated necklace with a boho feather design. Does Richie, a mainstay on the best-dressed list, have any fashion advice? “Always wear a ton of jewellery at once,” she says firmly. “I designed all the pieces so that they can be layered” (at Holt Renfrew).
