Romona Keveza Royal wedding inspiration

By:
By Amanda Wenek For ELLE Canada’s April issue, I spoke with designer Romona Keveza about the many beauties who have recently rocked her dresses on the red carpet. Turn to page 78 in our special 10th Anniversary April issue to see how she got Christina Hendricks and others into her dresses for some of Hollywood's biggest nights. According to the designer, the Romona Keveza woman is "classically understated with a certain 'je ne sais quoi.'" So it's no wonder Hollywood's leading ladies are drawn to her frocks. But now that she's conquered red-carpet royalty, she has her sights set on a different kind of Royal. And in this year of the Royal wedding, who can blame her. When we spoke, Romona was most excited for Charlene Wittstock’s July 2nd nuptials to Monaco’s Prince Albert II. “It would be an honour to dress Charlene because her mother-in-law [Grace Kelly] had really inspired me,” she says. She also admitted that her Fall 2011 eveningwear line, which showed during Paris Fashion Week, is testimony to the Royal wedding fever felt this year. “I am drawing from the various different periods of Royal Dynasties, and the colours and fabrics that are associated around Royal events... But there is a minimalism and a paring down, so there’s a richness in colours, textures and fabrics, but very clean, simple silhouettes.” What's up next for this Canadian designer? Romona joked that she already has enough on her plate with two bridal lines, her eveningwear line, and shows in New York, Paris, and Milan. "I read an article about me recently that says, ‘I’m convinced Romona Keveza doesn’t sleep'. I had a laugh and said 'Oh how do you know?' Its true! I get like 3 to 6 hours of sleep every night. It’s pretty crazy." What do you think of this designer on-the-rise, would you wear Romona's gowns?
