This is the first
Chanel show that I’ve been to where the runway set in the Grand Palais drew more attention than the assembled Karl devotees who typically arrive to the show layered—and I mean
layered—in Chanel finery. They were clearly primed for their close-ups, but today everyone was clamouring to photograph the 75 art installations that Karl had created for the spring/summer 2014 Chanel Art collection. His paintings and sculptures referenced the house’s iconic logo, fragrances, tweeds—and of course, the grand lady herself—Coco. People were tripping over each other’s pumps to snag selfies in front of the pop-art themed exhibit. My personal favourites were the silhouettes of Coco and the classic Chanel suit.
